Picnic Trial Information/Directions

Picnic Trials (field training sessions for both owners and dogs) are held monthly from February . October in either Pescadero or Cordelia (see directions). All Goldens and their owners are welcome. We also welcome the "rarer" retrievers . Standard Poodles, Curly Coast, Flat Coats, IWS, and Tollers. All levels of experience from pups and adults that have never seen a bird to advanced hunting dogs are encouraged to attend.

Bring your lunch, drinks, and utensils as well as water, etc. for your dog. If you have them, bring your whistles, bumpers, duck calls, starter pistols, decoys, etc.
Cost is $10 for your first dog and $5 for each additional dog (first timers . handlers . get their first dog free. The cost covers grounds rental and shells. Generally, dead birds are used, but if flyers are available, they will be provided at cost. Sign up at 8:30am . works starts at 9:00am.

Remember, NON-MEMBERS ARE WELCOME AT ALL OF OUR EVENTS.

Directions from 680 Northbound: Take the Cordelia exit. Veer to the right onto Cordelia Road. Go LEFT on Cordelia Road and continue for approximately 2 miles. 2380 Cordelia Road will be on your RIGHT.

Directions from 80 Eastbound: Take the Benicia/Cordelia exit. Take the RIGHT hand fork to Cordelia Road. Turn RIGHT at Stop and proceed to Cordelia Road. LEFT on Cordelia Road and continue for approximately 2 miles. 2380 Cordelia Road will be on your RIGHT.

Jones Lake in Pescadero-

Take Highway 1 south from Half Moon Bay or north from Santa Cruz.
Turn east on Pescadero Rd. and proceed through the town of Pescadero (stop sign).
Turn right on Cloverdale (sign for Butano Park) and go about 2 miles. Jones Lake is on the right at Westlands Nursery . a NORCAL sign will be posted.
Go in the driveway (beware of hidden speed bumps) to the bottom of the hill, turn right onto gravel road and go the picnic area at the top of the hill.
At Jones Lake we ask that participants bring a modest amount of a special recipe to share (hence, "picnic" trial) since we stop for lunch and socializing. Remember to bring along paper/plastic ware!
