Melanie Foster & “Tiki” – new OTCH
Member: Janet Naylor & Melanie Foster & OTCH Topbrass Firemark Tradewind, UDX, JH, OD, OBHF
Event: At the Hangtown Kennel Club on 05-28-11…
Tiki (co-owned with Janet Naylor) earned her 5th HIT out of Ut B at Davis DTC, with a 198.5, putting her in the OBHF. A few weeks later, she finished her OTCH with a 199 out of Ut. B, (tying for HIT). Tiki suffered an elbow injury in 2004, & in the aftermath, it has taken it’s toll, costing us a lot of missed shows, and training time. She earned her UD in Oct. 2005, & had all her 1st places by the next month, but the injury took it’s toll. I almost gave up & retired her last fall, but something told me to wait. She was looking good so I said, maybe we will try a few more times. She has now qualified 14 times in Ut. in a row. She is so much fun to show & train, she will be 11 on 8-25, but you would never believe it, except for her gray face. Her elbow is great. She has so much energy & her love of her work shows in everything she does. She gives 100% every single time I train or show her. Yeah, she is fast so we always lose a little more on the precision than the slow dogs, oh, well. Her go outs & her turn & sit, blink & you will miss them. She runs on all her exercises & runs back & flies to heel. I wouldn’t change a single thing about her. Melanie & I are so proud of her. I think back how things would be different had she not been injured, but then I think how lucky I have been to have her in my life & it just doesn’t matter. Dogs like her do not come along very often, she is a once in a lifetime dog.
